Smart Windows

Students from the Basaveshwara PU College, Bengaluru, visited CeNS on May, 28 2022. Dr Ashutosh Kumar Singh gave a talk on "Smart Windows" Smart windows are made of glass with dynamically changing light transmission properties that limit the amount of solar radiation that enters buildings. Typically, the glass switches between being translucent and transparent, letting some or all wavelengths of  light through while blocking others. Smart glass also aids in the development of climate-adaptive indoor buildings, offering advantages including natural light control, visual comfort, UV and infrared blocking, lower energy consumption, thermal comfort, resistance to extreme weather conditions, and privacy. Some smart windows have the ability to self-adjust to heat or cool for building energy conservation. Blinds, shades, and other window treatments may not be necessary with smart windows.
