An amazing state of matter: Life, evolution, Science & Technology

This program was organized by the Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA), Department of Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka. The presentation covered the general aspects of liquid crystals (LCs) including their significance, and applications, discovery, definition, and classification. The occurrence of LCs in human beings in the form of DNA, RNA, tissues, cell membrane etc. was discussed in length. The birefringence and fluidity of liquid crystals were demonstrated.  Students were quite amazed to know about the important characteristics of liquid crystals.  The active participation of children was distinctly perceptible as they raised many questions and requested the speaker to clarify their doubts.
