Tale of the Tiger

Mr. Daniel Sukumar, Conservationist, Wildlife researcher, gave a special lecture on March 7, 2022, on the occasion of the World wildlife day celebration at CeNS. The title of the presentation was "Tale of the Tiger"  This lecture was one of the series of events at the Centre to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India's Independence – Aazadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava. The program began by inviting the audience by Dr. D.S Shankar Rao followed by an introduction to the speaker by Dr.S. Krishna Prasad.

Sukumar began with introduction to the Tiger, explained its friendliness/wildness nature,types of species, etc. He said that there are eight species of Tiger, of which three are extinct, such as Caspian, Balinese & Javan. He said that it could adapt to various conditions like different altitudes, cold regions, plains & deserts. The life span of the Tiger is about ten years. Due to internal fighting, the life span gets reduced. The mother Tiger trains its Cubs how to capture the prey. The face, leg & spine size will be different for each Tiger. In 1900 about 43,000 tigers were there in India, but it redued around 1700 to in 1972 due to various reasons such as deforestation, a decrease in the territory, etc. The session ended with question & answer interaction.
