To nurture and realize indigenous technology in the field of nanoscience, Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS) invites industry and budding entrepreneurs alike to participate in its tech oriented activities.

CeNS is located in Bengaluru, the science capital of India. It is an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Centre has a focussed mandate for deploying nanoscience related Inventions to develop new technology with significant societal impact. The research activities are being increasingly aimed at translational aspects. CeNS researchers practice materials research at all relevant length scales, focusing on a variety of metal and semiconductor nanostructures, liquid crystals, gels, membranes, and hybrid materials. The Centre’s expertise, therefore, is uniquely extending to both nano- and soft matter sciences. On the industry interactions-front, the Advanced Materials Research Centre, entirely funded by Tata Steel & housed in the CeNS campus, was started about three years ago and is quite active. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. has funded a joint venture to bring value addition to carbon waste. A joint project with Hind High Vacuum aims to produce cost-effective, large area, robust, transparent conducting glasses for smart window applications. Another success is that of the roll-to-roll production of flexible transparent conducting electrodes, a collaborative effort with a German Industry and funding from the bi-national Indo-German Centre. A technology business incubator is getting ready to host nanotechnology based start-up businesses.
