The National Science Day (NS D) was celebrated on February 28, 2020. This Nation-wide event commemoratin g the announcement by Sir C V Raman of the scientific effect that now bears his name, had the theme of "Women in Science" suggested by DST. The show p ut up at CeNS, coordinated by Dr. D.S Shankar Rao and Dr. S. Krishna Prasad , scientists and mentored by Prof. G.U. Kulkarni, Director-in-Charge, took special care to see that the event lives upto the theme. To impress upon th e young minds that with right determination and proper effort women can ove rcome challenges and come up in science, the Centre invited girl students f rom BEL high school (CBSE stream). The speaker, Prof. Ranjini Bandyopadhyay , an acclaimed woman scientist from the Raman Research Institute, Bengaluru gave a brilliant lecture on "How Materials Flow" while constantly encourin g the students to interact. This was followed by two videos, one on Women S cientists who have made remarkable achievements in their field and are wort h emulating, and another on the life and works of Sir C.V. Raman, and compl eted by a live tabletop demonstration of the Raman effect. The visiting stu dents were led through demonstration of the science experiments at our Lear n it Through Experiments (LiTE) Gallery and conducted by our enthusiastic P hD students.
