CeNS and VIT University, Vellore conducted a joint one day workshop on "Recent Advances in Nano and Soft Materi als" for the undergraduate, Postgraduate and PhD students of VIT o n 17th October 2015. Professor G.U.Kulkarni, Director of CeNS was the Conve ner, and Dr. S. Krishna Prasad ( CeNS) & Dr. R. Vijayaraghavan (VIT) we re coordinators of the workshop. Sixty participants consisting of the stude nts and the faculty of VIT took part in the proceedings. The technical sess ion started with a keynote address by Prof. G.U. Kulkarni, who gave an over view of the Centre's research activities and then made a technical presenta tion on" Turbostratic graphene ". This was followed other technical present ations by 3 faculty members from CeNS – Dr. C.V. Yelamaggad, Dr. S. Krishna Prasad and Dr. Neena S. John – one from JNCASR, Bangalore, and one by a fa culty of VIT. The programme concluded with a lecture by the host of the wor kshop, Prof. R. Vijayraghavan. The speakers provided, for the benefit of th e students, the basic background knowledge for the topics, and then highlig hted the research work being carried out in their laboratories. Future dire ctions in the respective fields were also pointed out. The programme was we ll received by the participants with interesting interactive sessions.
